Kenny and Bachmann Commit to Iowa, Forming Powerful 2027 Recruiting Duo

Paul Kenny and Joe Bachmann, two of the top wrestling prospects in the class of 2027, have committed to the University of Iowa, bolstering the Hawkeyes’ recruiting class with elite talent. Kenny sits at 2nd nationally at 126 pounds per FloWrestling, and also a UWW Cadet World Champion out of Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey. Bachmann is ranked 5th nationally at 138 pounds from Faith Christian Academy in Pennsylvania, known for his dominance on the mat with wins at major tournaments like Ironman and Beast and a silver medal at the world level.

Kenny chose Iowa for its unparalleled wrestling culture and outstanding facilities, saying that “everyone lives and dies for wrestling” and that wrestlers enjoy more respect than football players. He described Iowa’s wrestling facilities as “the best in the country,” surpassing other top schools he visited. The two have a unique bond, having been lifelong friends and wrestling partners who experienced “the worst losses and the best wins together.”

Their joint commitment fulfills a childhood dream to wrestle together at the collegiate level, and Kenny is eager to “show everyone in the country that we’re coming to win some national titles,” crediting his coaches from high school, club wrestling, and family for shaping his journey.

Bachmann’s decision was a close choice between Iowa and Iowa State. After three weeks of training at each campus, he felt he made “massive jumps” in skill at Iowa, impressed by the university’s all-in-one facilities, including cold tubs, hot tubs, saunas, and weight rooms. Both Kenny and Bachmann finalized their decision together just two days before committing. Bachmann brings a decorated wrestling resume with nearly undefeated seasons and championship titles, including the prestigious Super 32, and he has wrestled internationally for Puerto Rico. He openly expressed a fierce competitive spirit, stating, “I hate losing. It’s probably one of the worst feelings I ever had,” a mindset that fuels his rigorous training to ensure any losses come only to superior opponents. At Iowa, Bachmann wants to be recognized as a top wrestler and an impactful member of the team from his first year onward.

Together, Kenny and Bachmann bring exceptional talent and a powerful shared vision to Iowa’s 2027 wrestling class. Their high national rankings, proven track records at youth, high school, and international levels, and their deep personal connection position them as standout recruits. Their commitments are poised to contribute significantly to Iowa’s legacy as one of collegiate wrestling’s dominant programs, with both athletes aiming for national titles and lasting impact on the sport.

This pairing of top-10 nationally ranked wrestlers creates not just an addition of individual talent but a dynamic partnership rooted in friendship and competitive drive, setting high expectations for their future at Iowa. As they embark on their collegiate careers, the wrestling community will closely watch how Kenny and Bachmann help shape the Hawkeyes’ continued success.
